Today is the last day of Summer! It was a hot one over here in Montreal! I didn’t have much exciting stuff happening in term of traveling, but I sure made the best out of the outsides (lots of running!). Also my mom visited from Gaspésie for a few days (kayaking, walking, biking, cooking, spa!), I went over to Gaspésie to visit family with Richard (beach, beach beach!) and I also went to Quebec City to visit my sister.
Wow good thing I said I would be back with Puerto Rico photos tomorrow last Monday! The week went by very quickly with the beginning of class and me running all over the place to get everything sorted (schedule, tuition, reading materials, pencils, blah). It has also been a week of not doing much else post half-marathon. I did go on a 5k run on Wednesday afternoon and that was all. Already trying to catch up on school assignments and readings.
I have a terrible confession to make. I was never fat. There. It’s out. I have no amazing before/after illustrated story on how I became healthy and slim. My story is more one of a lazy-skinny-pot-smoking-couch-potato, I’m afraid; it’s not as golden and glorious. I’ll only say it once (because my mom reads my blog, as if she never knew!).
My amazing not very amazing secret would be this: I am shit scared on getting old. So one day, I decided to kick my little 28 year old butt and get a gym membership. And then I took on running because I thought I needed some form of cardiovascular exercise alongside the weight lifting. I thought it would be fun to get a little fitter before my 30s (before things start pointing southward, you know..)
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, Sublime with Rome is in Montreal tomorrow night. I’m 16 again! Weeeeeeeeeee! Sublime is my all time favorite band, and although I don’t listen to them so much anymore, Bradley Nowell (and Lou Dog! May the both of them rest in peace together) still hold a very special place in my heart for having made me the person I am today. For putting words to my feelings when I was an inarticulate teenager, for making me travel to California, party and play music, get partly covered in tattoos, and just for being by my side in good and bad times for the last 12 years.
My boyfriend Richard and I had a vacation in Hawaii for two weeks last April/March. We spent the first 3 days in Waikiki, then flew to Maui for a week, then came back to Waikiki for 4 days. Apart from having our car broken into and all of our stuff stolen on the way to the airport in Maui, it was fantastic. Good weather, good food, good surf. Most of the photos I took while there were on a point-and-shoot that also got stolen, along with a video of a sea turtle we shot while snorkeling 🙁
This blog should have started the day after I finished school, as a new beginning of things. The reality is, I graduated from Dawson College Institute of Photography (cheers for the misspell in my name!) in December 2009. That was 8 months ago. At first, I really needed a break from school (I did full time work by day and full time college by night for 2 years), so I told myself that our return from a well-deserved holiday in Hawaii would be the official jump start to my new life as a professional photographer/blogger. That was in April 2010. I had a few trials at making a website/designing a blog, but I failed, called Richard for help, cried a little, and then postponed.
