Female packing list for Fall Eurotrip

what to pack for europe

Who hasn’t fallen prey of either totally over-packing and not wearing half of what they brought or, at the other end of the spectrum, feeling way too utilitarian and backpacker-ish for La Ville des Lumières for example? I have definitely done both! As a seasoned backpacker, I tend to fall in the latter category most of the time, but I do like to feel stylish when I’m city-hopping in trendy capitals. Do you think it’s possible to be stylish yet comfortable AND pack minimally? I like to think so! I’ve done a fair bit of city-hopping these past months (and there’s more ahead, stay tuned!), and this is my tried-and-tested packing list of the moment. I’m a pretty neutral-shade type of gal, and in this specific case, it makes sense to pack that way, because everything will fit together. Hurray for keeping it simple! Get packing!

What to pack for a trip to Europe in the Fall

1. HORIZN STUDIOS SMART SUITCASE

A hard-shell suitcase that will charge your phone and that is cabin-sized is perfect for city-hopping through Europe. There are cheap flight deals to be found between European cities with EasyJet and Ryanair, but checking a luggage can easily make a world of difference between a bargain and a splurge. This smart suitcase’s best feature is the removable/rechargeable 10,000 mAh inbuilt battery and the uber-silent wheels.

2. SOLE SOCIETY MILLIE VEGAN TOTE BAG

There’s a time and place for carrying a backpack, and traveling through Europe’s trendy capitals isn’t one of them in my book. This tote bag is not only super roomy, it’s fantastic for keeping everything organized and holds all my camera equipment, plus some snacks, water, etc, etc. Anything you could think you’d need on a day out exploring — put it in there, it fits!

3. TRIED AND TESTED FLAT SHOES

I know it’s tempting to pack your shiny new shoes for their first big adventure, but in this case, it’s best to stick to what you already have and know will sustain you through long days of walking. My go-to of the moment are black Oxford Brogues by Will’s Vegan Shoes and black cap hi-top trainers by Ethletic, two ethical and vegan shoe brands I absolutely adore. Whatever you decide on, make sure they are well worn in and won’t cause blisters. And pack two pairs, because even the comfiest of shoes get uncomfortable if you wear them every single day.

4. YOGA PANTS!

I’ve said this a few times, but I more or less only live in yoga pants. When styled properly, I think they can be super stylish too! Not only that, they are lightweight and take no room in a suitcase and they dry very quickly. This Fall, I’ll be carrying these black ones with mesh details from Blossom Yoga Wear, super cool galaxy ones from The Salvage and wild leopard ones from Onzie. Obviously, those double up as yoga pants too! Lol.

5. JAMIE SKINNY JEANS

I do like jeans a lot and I missed them so much when I was traveling through South East Asia for 2 years. Jeans in my book don’t get dirty and can be worn many many times before being washed. Skinny jeans are my go-to and I always carry one pain of these Jamie Skinnies with me.

6. COZY YET STYLISH JUMPER

I love to dress in layers and I love quirky details and I love yoga, therefore I totes love this Kiss my Asana jumper from Blossom Yoga Wear! It’s soft and warm and cozy and perfect to wear both on the plane and out and about sightseeing. It’s also a pretty good conversation starter 😉

7. YOGA TOPS

Next up, and also perfect for layering, are quick-dry yoga tank tops that are stylish enough to pass as t-shirts. Onzie makes amazingly comfy, stylish and soft ones and this open back one is my current favorite. Goes perfectly with skinny jeans!

8. NEUTRAL COTTON T-SHIRTS

I always pack a few neutral-colored cotton t-shirts and right now I’m loving the Uniqlo ones, or if you are in Germany, the Weekday ones. I guess traveling with basics is the theme here, and all you really need is a couple of fashion accessories to jazz things up!

9. A FLATTERING SPORTS BRA

I stopped wearing underwire bras a few years ago and, lemme tell you, I ain’t going back. Being rather flat-chested, I guess that’s easy for me to say, but Jeebus, who the hell ever thought that having metal wires under your breasts all day long was an OK thing to do? Not me. There are several sports bras out there that are still flattering (aka that don’t flatten your boobs and make them look like pancakes), and this one by Onzie and this one from H&M are my favorites.

10. YOUR FAVORITE ACCESSORIES TO JAZZ THINGS UP!

I always carry a couple of jewelry items with me and never feel plain! My industrial steel earrings and rings from AshkalJewelry and my mega-cool 100% vegan watch from Votch are really all I need to go from plain to stylish.

11. A COLORFUL UMBRELLA

You’ve probably noticed that I’m not packing a rain jacket! That’s because I’m still on the hunt for a nice-looking one. Meanwhile, here’s a fun trick! This colorful umbrella makes for really fun Instagram shot opportunities and brightens up any dark or plain outfit!

12. A COAT WITH HUGE POCKETS

So admittedly I messed up and bought a coat that isn’t vegan-friendly, but hey, I do like this coat a lot. It kinda has Caroline de Maigret’s effortlessly chic vibe, and I can put all my cameras in the huge pockets. Similar styles that actually are vegan-friendly can be found here, here and here.

13. SUNGLASSES TO CONCEAL YOUR TIRED EYES IN PHOTOS 😛

I know you’re not going to a beach holiday, but trust me when I say pack a pair of sunnies and thank me later when you look at your photos and are pretty grateful that you can’t see your tired eyes from last night’s cheap wine bender. I’ve had these classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers for ages and they were worth every penny.

14. TRAVEL YOGA MAT

Don’t let last night’s excess or the fact that you are outside of your usual routine take you away from your mat! I try not to. I’m still searching for the perfect travel yoga mat and I’ve yet to find one I love as much as my hefty Jade mat, but currently I travel with this Manduka travel mat and, despite the fact I can’t say I love it, it has the advantage of being really light! Let me know if you have any recommendation?

15. AN OVERSIZED SCARF

Another essential that will double up as a blanket in cold planes and will be your best friend when comes the time to get creative with your Insta-shots, an oversized scarf is also the perfect cozy accessory to jazz up any basics. This specific one is also vegan-friendly and super soft, and I’ve got an extra one for you to win!

Love the look! I always have to dress in layers because I’m from Texas and it’s cold in the early mornings but turns warm quickly. I’m used to traveling dressing in layers!

I pack sunglasses, a camera, a dress jacket, a sweater or coat depending on the season and comfortable hiking shoes.
