Hobart

Considering Hobart is the main airport in Tasmania, it’s easier to start your road trip here, because you can land, pick up your keys and be on your way. However, before you jump behind your wheel, we recommend that you have a break and make the most of your time in the Tasmanian capital. Mount Wellington is a spot that’s perfect to explore, particularly if you love to hike. With an elevation of 4,170 ft, it’ll take you a few hours to complete, but once you get to the top, the view is unmissable.

Freycinet National Park

Wineglass Bay is considered one of the top 10 beaches in the world, based in Freycinet National Park, this is definitely something that you shouldn’t miss. Surrounded by mountains and a deep blue ocean, the view is an incredible aesthetic. There are a number of ways to see Wineglass Bay, but the best is arguably heading on a four hour cruise and seeing the sights in pure luxury.

Bay of Fires

Take advantage of being near the Bay of Fires while you’re on your road trip – this should definitely be on your itinerary when you’re in Tasmania. The beautiful rock formations covered in red moss are not to be missed. Because of the moss, Bay of Fires resembles its name, making the view absolutely breathtaking and a must-see for your road trip itinerary.

Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain is another incredible mountain which remains a top tourist location. This beautiful spot is one of the best places to stop during your Tasmanian road trip thanks to the Dove Lake and Enchanted Forest. Boasting beautiful waterfalls throughout the area, you won’t regret making the trip. The breathtaking views and fresh air will leave you feeling invigorated for the next leg of your journey.

Launceston

Launceston is a great place to finish your journey, especially if you love nature. Perhaps spend some time at Cataract Gorge and have a dip in the lake and walk around the trail. Alternatively, you could head over to City Park and have a picnic, or browse the buildings and see the history of the city.

The opportunities to explore truly are endless, with something new to find on every corner. There are a number of hidden places which come as highly recommended by tourists, and it’s not difficult to see why.

These locations will take you away from a linear south to north road trip, but if you begin in Hobart, journey on to Freycinet National Park, then up the coast to the Bay of Fires, you’ll take in stunning coastline along the way. From the Bay of Fires, you could have a stopover in Launceston before travelling onto Cradle Mountain and back to the city.
