Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, Sublime with Rome is in Montreal tomorrow night. I’m 16 again! Weeeeeeeeeee! Sublime is my all time favorite band, and although I don’t listen to them so much anymore, Bradley Nowell (and Lou Dog! May the both of them rest in peace together) still hold a very special place in my heart for having made me the person I am today. For putting words to my feelings when I was an inarticulate teenager, for making me travel to California, party and play music, get partly covered in tattoos, and just for being by my side in good and bad times for the last 12 years.
Talking about this makes me very emotional, reminiscing of my early twenties, when I was just traveling places, meeting people, doing what I wanted whenever I wanted without ever worrying about getting old or about the future. Sublime really was the soundtrack of my 5 years spent away from home (I moved to Vancouver on my own at 21 to learn English; spent 2 years there, then spent a year in California, followed by 2 years in England. I have now been in Montreal for 3 years, in case you are wondering). These years really were the making of me, they went past in a second, and I will cherish them forever. And I get to keep the greatest memory of all from these years. Richard and I met while we were both staying at the same youth hostel in San Diego in 2005. He was from England and I didn’t understand much of what he said at first, but it all worked out in the end 😉
Amazing how we changed in 5 years. We’re still cute though 🙂
